Dr. Qu Jifeng, Vice President of NIM, met with the KRISS delegation. Heads of relevant departments and leading researchers from NIM also participated in the discussions.

On the morning of September 29, the director-level meeting was held. Dr. Qu presented an overview of NIM’s institutional development and scientific progress, while Dr. Lee introduced the recent achievements of KRISS. Both sides formally renewed the MoU on Metrological Technical Cooperation and exchanged reports on their respective research strategies and key priority areas.

In the afternoon, the two institutes held an academic exchange session featuring three themed presentations on climate change and environment, digital transformation, and life sciences and health. Experts and researchers from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and explored potential joint research projects in related technical fields.

On September 30, the KRISS delegation visited NIM’s Changping Campus, where they toured nine specialized laboratories, including those for optical clocks, chemistry, biosafety, electrical metrology, and ophthalmic optics. Technical exchanges were conducted with NIM scientists during the visits.

This visit by the KRISS delegation continued the institutional dialogue mechanism established through the director-level meetings, enhancing strategic communication, information sharing, and mutual trust between the two institutes. It is expected to further strengthen cooperation and improve metrological capabilities on both sides.

KRISS serves as Korea’s national metrology institute. Since 2005, NIM and KRISS have maintained a long-term and stable partnership under the Memorandum of Understanding on Metrological Technical Cooperation, which has now been renewed three times.
